Unveiling the Reasons Behind Automotive Starters Freely Spinning and How to Resolve Them !

The reasons for the automotive starter free-spinning and how to resolve them are as follows:

1️⃣  Failure to Release the Start Switch After Engine Start:

This is one of the most common reasons. When the engine has already started and is running, but the driver keeps the start switch in the ''start'' position, the starter will continue to spin freely, leading to free-spinning. The solution is to release the start switch and let it return to the ''ON'' position.

2️⃣  Damaged or Stuck Starter Gear (Bendix Gear):

The starter gear, also known as the bendix gear, engages with the engine's flywheel during the starting process. If the starter gear is damaged or stuck, it may not retract properly, causing free-spinning. The solution is to inspect and replace the damaged starter gear.

3️⃣  Misalignment of Bendix Gear and Flywheel:

The bendix gear must align correctly with the engine's flywheel for smooth engagement. If the alignment is incorrect, the starter may not function properly, leading to free-spinning. The solution is to adjust the position of the bendix gear to ensure proper alignment.

4️⃣  Faulty Starter Solenoid:

The starter solenoid is responsible for engaging the bendix gear with the flywheel. If the solenoid fails, it may prevent the starter from functioning correctly, causing free-spinning. The solution is to check and repair or replace the faulty starter solenoid.

5️⃣  Starter Relay Failure:

The starter relay is an electrical switch that controls the operation of the starter. If the relay fails, the starter may not engage or may free-spin. The solution is to check and repair or replace the faulty relay.

For the above issues, it is recommended to take the vehicle to a professional automotive repair center for inspection and repair. Qualified technicians can accurately diagnose the problem and take appropriate measures to ensure the starter operates correctly, ensuring the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
